President Donald Trump is considering a West Wing shake-up and wants to hire a "killer" to take on the Mueller probe, according to Vanity Fair’s Gabriel Sherman.
"The president's view is that allies on the outside are doing a better job defending him than his political shop," one Republican close to the White House told Sherman.
"He's saying he should have put Rudy [Giuliani] at State and Chris Christie at Justice," instead of Rex Tillerson and Jeff Sessions, added another outside adviser who often speaks with Trump.
Trump's daughter, Ivanka, who has clashed with White House chief of staff John Kelly, also wants to "clean house," according to the report.
"Her view is J.F.K. had Bobby there to have his back," a Trump friend told Sherman.
Trump is considering Jason Miller, his communications director during the presidential campaign, for the role of White House strategist, as he sees him as "a killer," and has turned to outside advisers for counsel including Miller, Fox News host Sean Hannity, Corey Lewandowski, Reince Priebus, and RNC Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel.
If Miller is not hired, or if he turns down the job, the president is also discussing bringing on Lewandowski and former deputy campaign manager Dave Bossie to share the position.
But Ivanka is not a fan of Lewandowski's.
"They have blocked Corey at every turn," one former campaign staffer told Sherman. "They kept him from going into [the] family box at the inaugural. If Corey gets back in, they're not long for the place."
