President Donald Trump's new Director of Communications Anthony Scaramucci will report directly to the president, according to a press release issued by the White House.

In the statement released Friday night, the White House outlined Scaramucci's duties in his new role, The Hill reported.

"Scaramucci will oversee the entire communications operation, including message development and strategy. He will report directly to the president," the statement read.

Sean Spicer, who resigned Friday, reported to White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus.

Priebus told Fox News on Friday he had worked with Scaramucci in varied roles previously and indicated he was supportive of his appointment, the article explained.

The statement also included words of praise by the president.

"Anthony is a person I have great respect for, and he will be an important addition to this administration," Trump wrote in the statement.

"He has been a great supporter and will now help implement key aspects of our agenda while leading the communications team," the president added. "We have accomplished so much, and we are being given credit for so little. The good news is the people get it, even if the media doesn't."

Scaramucci said in the statement he was "proud to join [Trump's] administration as he continues to deliver for the American people" and that the president had "accomplished an incredible amount in a short period of time."

Scaramucci will begin his new duties on Aug. 15, according to the statement. Deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders will move into the position of press secretary previously held by Spicer.

Spicer, who reportedly resigned over a disagreement over hiring Scaramucci, on Friday told Fox News he was "looking forward to watching Anthony and Sarah do a tremendous job."

He also tweeted Friday:
