Newly appointed White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci tweeted Saturday he was scrubbing old tweets that were critical of President Donald Trump so they wouldn't provide a "distraction," The Hill reported.
Scaramucci began deleting tweets critical of the president on Friday which included one where he called the Trump campaign a "spectacle," The Hill reported Friday. And in postings in 2012 he called Trump "so smart with no judgement" and referred to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as "incredibly competent."
During a White House briefing on Friday shortly after being named to his new post, he explained Trump has frequently reminded him of his old Twitter postings.
"One of the biggest mistakes I made, because I was an inexperienced person in the world of politics. I was supporting another candidate. I should have never said that about him," Scaramucci said. "So, Mr. President, if you're listening, I personally apologize for the 50th time for saying that."
