White House Spokeswoman: I Don't Think Trump Accepts FBI's Wiretap Denial

President Donald Trump does not accept the Federal Bureau of Investigation's denial that Trump Tower was wiretapped, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday.

"I don't think he does," Huckabee Sanders said, adding that a number of media outlets pointed out the possibility that President Barack Obama had wiretapped Trump Tower.

"It does back up the fact that the administration was wiretapping American citizens," she told ABC's "Good Morning America" program.

"There's wide reporting suggesting that his administration, whether it was ordered by this president, specifically, that his administration could have done this."

Huckabee Sanders was referring to a report in The New York Times that FBI Director James Comey asked the Justice Department to publicly reject Trump's claims that his office had been wiretapped, because the charges are false and imply that the FBI broke the law.

Huckabee Sanders said Trump wants Congress to look into his claims and she did not know if Trump had contacted Comey directly.

"All we are asking is that we let Congress do its job," Huckabee Sanders said.

"The president wants the truth to come out to the American people, and he is asking that it be done through the House Intelligence Committee and let that be the process we go through," Sanders said.

She also criticized media coverage of Trump, saying: "I think if the president walked across the Potomac, the media would report that he can't swim."
