President Donald Trump will lay out an optimistic vision for the United States in a "unifying address," during his State of the Union address Tuesday, according to White House principal deputy press secretary Raj Shah.
"It doesn't just talk to the individuals who voted for this president," Shah told CNN's "New Day" host Chris Cuomo Monday. "He's going to talk about five key issues, the economy and the great successes we've had over the last year."
Under Trump, Shah said, "we have a record stock market. We've created over 2.5 million jobs. He's also going to talk about trade, international trade."
In addition, Trump, who was at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, last week, will speak about the need for fair, free and reciprocal trade among nations, said Shah.
"He's also going to talk about the issue of infrastructure, the need to rebuild the United States," said Shah. "We have a $1 trillion plan that involves state and local investment, public/private partnerships, we're very excited about. We think it's something Democrats can get behind as well."
Trump also will speak about immigration and his plan to move forward with "a permanent solution for the DACA population, real border security, ending the Visa lottery, reforming the chain migration system," said Shah.
He'll also address what the Trump administration is doing "to keep America safe, to ensure that the individuals coming into this country is properly vetted, to ensure we're putting the maximum pressure on North Korea and confronting that regime and dealing with threats across the world, including Russia," said Shah.
On Fox News' "Fox & Friends," Shah said that the president will be talking about "a stronger country, a safer country, and a prouder country," and about tax reform legislation that is already affecting millions of workers across the United States.
Shah also spoke on the Fox program about Trump's plan for immigration, including that he has "come forward and offered a 10 to 12-year pathway to citizenship to people who are brought here illegally as minors. That's reaching across the aisle."
Trump is looking for "real border security and reforms" for the nation's legal immigration system, said Shah. "These are issues that are broad bipartisan support and if we can get beyond the food fights in Washington, D.C., we can actually get things done for the American people."
The border wall also will be the "front and center component of this bill," said Shah.
"What we requested is $25 billion for border security, $20 billion of which would be for that southern border wall," said Shah.
"We also want $5 billion for an increased number of border patrol and ICE agents along with removal authority . . . what we are trying to do is stop the flow of illegal immigrants, illegal drugs across this southern border.
"And a big part of that is building the border wall that the president campaigned on and is he very committed to."
