President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that the coronavirus is "going to go away," but he has reportedly expressed frustration about his administration's response to the outbreak in private, CNN reports.
Trump said during his trip to India this week that the coronavirus, known officially as COVID-19, is "a problem that's going to go away" without doing serious damage to the global economy.
He added, "I think that whole situation will start working out. A lot of talent, a lot of brain power is being put behind it."
However, CNN also reported Tuesday that Trump privately expressed a wish to fire the officials behind the federal government plan to quarantine certain patients in Alabama. He previously became upset after learning that officials allowed some Americans who tested positive for the virus to enter the U.S. for quarantine rather than remain in Asia. He eventually came to the conclusion that it was the right decision, but was reportedly frustrated that he wasn't made aware of the decision-making process behind their return.
"We did the right thing. If you were out there, if you were an American and you refused to have any help from your country — these were wonderful people. It wasn't their fault," Trump said on Tuesday.
Trump also noted that the U.S. has "essentially closed the borders" to contain the virus.
"We're watching very carefully," Trump said. "We're fortunate so far and we think it's going to remain that way."
