Krauthammer: WH 'Bounced Off Bottom' With Scaramucci's Ouster

Fox News' "Special Report"

By    |   Monday, 31 July 2017 10:16 PM EDT

After a shaky several days last week, the White House appears to have "bounced off bottom" as communications director Anthony Scaramucci left his job just 11 days in, conservative commentator Charles Krauthammer said Monday.

"It looks like the Trump administration hit bottom last week, and it seems to have bounced off the bottom," Krauthammer told Fox News' "Special Report."

Scarammucci entered the job last week with gun blazing, firing one of his staffers, prompting the resignation of press secretary Sean Spicer, and blasting chief strategist Steve Bannon and chief of staff Reince Priebus in a profanity-laced interview with The New Yorker's Ryan Lizza.

Priebus resigned — or was ousted — at the end of the week.

But when Preibus' replacement, retired Gen. John Kelly, was sworn in Monday morning, it was Scaramucci who was shown the door.

"Kelly is exerting his authority, he's been given authority," Krauthammer said. "I have to say, Scaramucci, we hardly knew ye. Although I think he would be a better contestant on 'Dancing with the Stars' than Spicey would, so I think it's actually an upgrade for them."

Spicer is rumored to be in talks with the reality TV show to be a contestant.

"This is an obvious signal from the president and from Kelly, that he's in charge," Krauthammer continued. "I think then you have the beginnings of a White House that can really function."

Another test, he said, is whether President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and daughter Ivanka Trump, both of whom work in the White House, will be exempt from going through Kelly.

"But Kelly obviously must have felt that he has the authority to do what he has to do, which is to seize control of the White House," Krauthamer said. "If that is true, and if the president will allow Kelly some control over the president's own unrestrained impulses, I think that would be a tremendous advance."
