Rep. Zelden: IRS Should Probe 'One Voice' for Work to Oust Netanyahu

By    |   Sunday, 29 March 2015 05:45 PM EDT

The Internal Revenue Service should look into the tax-exempt status of 501(c)3 groups such as One Voice that participated in the effort to oust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, says Rep. Lee Zelden of New York.

Zelden and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz have been trying since January to get information on the group's tax-exempt status, Zelden said Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable" on AM 970 in New York.

Story continues below.

"One Voice isn't the only U.S. 501(c)3 that was very heavily engaged in this … effort to oust the prime minister, Zelden told host John Catsimatidis. "I think the IRS needs to take a look very carefully at multiple 501(c)3’s because these are supposed to be operating as charitable, tax-exempt entitles that are not engaged in political activities like this."

Critics say the State Department gave funds to One Voice, which were turned over to groups working in Israel to defeat Netanyahu. One Voice has said the money was unrelated.
