Author, columnist, and Democratic pollster Doug Schoen has been an articulate voice for pragmatic, centrist politics in the Democratic Party ever since he helped President Bill Clinton recover from the 1994 drubbing that cost Democrats their control of the House for the first time in four decades.

In an exclusive Newsmax interview, Schoen warns his fellow Democrats that President Trump's poll numbers are heading up for a reason: Democratic "resistance" to Trump is not a viable long-term strategy for success, he says. He adds the lack of a coherent message is amplified by an increasingly obvious leftward tilt that has positioned Sens. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, and Kamala Harris as the party's de facto leaders. But the party's recent political success, he says, has actually come from moderates like Rep. Conor Lamb, who recently won the special election in Pennsylvania.
