My Fellow Democrats Have No Agenda Beyond Hating Trump

My Fellow Democrats Have No Agenda Beyond Hating Trump

When my fellow Democrats talk about Donald Trump, it reminds me of a group of divorced men complaining about their ex-wives. They ramble on endlessly about her past transgressions and bad behavior yet offer nothing regarding what they could have done differently or how they’re preparing for the future.

Democrats complain vociferously about Trump, yet I haven’t heard of or received any concrete plans for reforming immigration policies, Obamacare, or tax laws. I receive weekly emails from individuals like Tom Steyer and organizations like the OFA asking me to donate money to impeach Trump, usually offering me a bumper sticker for my contribution but little else.

When Barack Obama was in office I received 2-3 emails a week discussing Democratic strategies and policies, most of them bearing Obama’s signature. They were well written, spoke to people with his voice and maintained effective, ongoing communication with his Democratic base. That has been replaced by a disjointed chorus of politicians chanting different variations of “Trump is a jerk and must be impeached.”

We are so obsessed with hating Donald Trump that we’ve forgotten he is a master manipulator who plays a ratings-hungry media like a guitar virtuoso.

When Trump sends Rudy Giuliani on the news show circuit, Giuliani is like a focus group moderator testing the waters to see how far an outrageous Trumpian statement will be tolerated. Trump gauges public reaction to Rudy and then follows-up with his own tweets on the topic. Trump repeatedly calling Mueller’s investigation a witch hunt has done far more damage than people realize and by continually undermining the press he is stoking possible physical violence against reporters and pundits, yet all we do is discuss it ad nauseum. Besides complaining, yearning for a “blue wave” in November seems to be the only other Democratic tactic, and even if that happens in the house, Trump will use it to his advantage by blaming the press and fake news.

The promise of Trump’s quick demise after the Mueller investigation is finished is wishful thinking on the part of Democrats. Donald Trump will not go quietly into the night no matter what the law may ultimately decide and the only way he will leave the Oval Office is kicking and screaming. He has sowed the seeds of disbelief with his base and continues to cast the press and Mueller as villains. An ugly battle lies ahead.

At this moment we are facing circumstances not seen since the Second World War that many of us are either too frightened or naïve to admit. We are currently under attack by a foreign government using cyberwarfare rather than conventional tactics, which has taken us into unchartered territory with unknown consequences. No one understands the endgame better than Vladimir Putin, who has been preparing for this moment his entire life. I think Donald Trump truly believes he can outmaneuver Putin, but Trump is out hopelessly of his league and has already been outplayed by the master.

What we must never forget is that no matter what happens to Donald Trump and Robert Mueller, the real winner in this conflict will be Vladimir Putin, who wins in any scenario, because all outcomes involve the further dividing and undermining of the United States.
