Much has already been written and said about the lack of media attention the Kermit Gosnell abortion case has received. Folks like Democratic strategist Kirsten Powers and Atlantic writer Conor Friedersdorf have come out to lambaste the liberal media for an unwillingness to make the story front-page news until it was essentially shamed into doing so.
It’s hard to say why the nation’s biggest news outlets ignored it for so long. After all, “If it bleeds it leads,” the famous news saying goes, and Gosnell’s got it all — sex, death, corruption, gore.
And the knee-jerk explanation, offered by some of my fellow conservatives, that liberal news outlets don’t want to highlight abortion abuses, seems counterintuitive. If you believe that abortion should be safe, legal, and well regulated, you might well argue that the Gosnell story only bolsters that claim.
