Yes, There Are Threats to Democracy, but They All Emanate From the Left

Liberal media outlets such as CNN and MSNBC are obsessed over the January 6th riot, labeling it the biggest threat to our nation's democracy since the Civil War.

While the riot was an ugly display that must be denounced, there was never a chance the events of that day could overthrow the protective safeguards embedded within our Constitution. There was no grand plan to partner with the military to impose martial law or institute a junta to eviscerate the Bill of Rights.

Media attention to the initial event and subsequent analysis were warranted, but the daily maniacal focus on that event a year ago is really designed by the liberal media to distract from the true threats to our democracy, all of which emanate from the left. They are, in no particular order:

1. The Deep State's coup attempt orchestrated by a few rogue FBI officials, partnering with Democratic operatives, to bring down their political nemesis, Donald Trump, via an investigation premised on a lie.
2. The leftist dominated social media giants — Facebook, Twitter and Google — conspiring to silence and cancel the free-speech of conservatives, or even many liberals who simply were not liberal enough.
3. Continued attempts by academia to ban conservative speakers and the younger generation’s intolerance to speech they disagree with.
4. Leftist attempts to erode measures to uphold the integrity of the voting process.

The false claims of the Hillary Clinton 2016 campaign, prompting an FBI investigation of their political opponent, stands as the most significant political coup attempt in America’s history. It is scary how close it came to succeeding.

Those trying to bring down the duly elected Donald Trump were not a ragtag group of protesters going too far after a legitimate protest over Democrats’ election eve changes to our voting system. No, they were a powerful cabal, rich enough to pay political operative Christopher Steele to concoct a false story about their political rival to induce a three-year investigation to bring down the new administration.

FBI Deputy Director Peter Strzok was so partisan that he assured his paramore, fellow agent Lisa Page, that they would implement their “insurance” policy should the loathed Trump unexpectedly win.

That led to the FBI doctoring evidence in order to spy on Trump campaign allies. Now that is a coup, and a real threat to democracy.

As noted above, the clowns who assaulted police and broke through barricades on January 6th had no institutional power or control of the masses. Big Tech, on the other hand, wields its iron fist over the public discourse in a manner that is veering closer and closer to the mind control games practiced regularly by the Chinese Communist Party. They alone determine what is worthy of being heard and what is blocked from public access.

The leftist giants who control social media actually bragged to liberal columnist Molly Ball of Time magazine about how they teamed up with Democrats to assure that conservative speech would be stifled as election day neared.

Leftist leaders from the Democratic Party, academia and the celebrity culture were appalled that Trump was able to get so much free publicity by the tech outlets in 2016. Twitter’s Jack Dorsey and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg felt guilty for not stopping him that year.

They vowed not to make that mistake again in 2020. So, they agreed to the Democrats’ demand that they be proactive through their algorithms to shut down speech they themselves deemed inappropriate.

Exhibit A was the conspiracy to block any mention of the Hunter Biden laptop blockbuster. Post election, Amazon banned the publishing of a book by Republican Senator Josh Hawley, while Facebook just de-platformed a conservative group’s quest to promote its book about Ronald Reagan.

Now, that is a threat to democracy.

The intolerance of divergent thought is now widely tolerated within the university system. conservatives are banned from campus. Astoundingly, 40% of all college millennials believe it is acceptable to ban someone else’s right to speak if it causes emotional pain to another. Now, that is a threat to democracy.

And then there is the leftist quest to eviscerate any attempt to protect against voter fraud. The Democrats’ election bill, HR1, would ban voter ID requirements (though a majority of the population — including minorities — approves of them) and legalize ballot harvesting, which allows partisan operatives to collect ballots through intimidation — as practiced in banana republics — and erode proper chain of custody.

Democratic officials propose the flooding of the nation with mail-in ballots whether requested or not. Signature verification requirements and established deadlines were scrapped or significantly diluted.

It was these measures that understandably infuriated many who were protesting at the Capitol square last January. Those who ignored Trump's request to march peacefully should rightfully be brought to justice, but calling this an insurrection, or an attempted coup, or threat to our democracy, is hyperbole.

Over the last few years, there have been real threats to our democracy all right, but they’ve all emanated from the left.
