The 10 best family movie nominees have been named by Movieguide and will compete for a $25,000 prize at the 26th annual Faith and Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry on Feb. 2 in Los Angeles.
The "Teddy Bear" Awards, which the awards are nicknamed, will be televised on the REELZ Channel at 4 p.m. on April 1, said Movieguide founder and publisher Ted Baehr, adding that the prize is supported by a grant from the Ware Foundation.
The nominees, in alphabetical order, are:
- "The Boss Baby," from DreamWorks/20th Century Fox
- "Cars 3," Pixar/Walt Disney Studios
- "The Case for Christ," from PureFlix Films
- "Despicable Me 3," from Illumination/Universal Studios
- "The Emoji Movie," from Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Entertainment

- "The LEGO Batman Movie," from Warner Bros. Pictures
- "The Man Who Invented Christmas," from Bleecker Street Media
- "Smurfs: The Lost Village," from Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Entertainment
- "The Star," from Columbia Pictures/Sony Pictures Entertainment.
"This is one of our strongest lists for best family movies," Baehr said. "These movies are not only family friendly, entertaining and well crafted; they also have strong Christian, redemptive or morally uplifting content and values."
Last year, "Miracles From Heaven" won the best movie from family Award while "God's Not Dead 2," won the best movie for mature audiences award. In 2016, "Home" walked away with the best movie for families award, and "The 33" won the best movie for mature audiences award.
Movieguide said the domestic box office totals of the 2018 nominated movies ranged from about $264.6 million for "Despicable Me 3" and $175.75 million for "The LEGO Batman Movie" to $5.5 million for "The Man Who Invented Christmas."
At the gala, Baehr will present highlights from Movieguide's 2018 Report to the Entertainment Industry, which will highlight what kind of family movies were most successful at the domestic and international box office in 2017, along with home video.
