The 12 “most hated” U.S. companies in the annual 24/7 Wall St. survey include a bunch of cable, internet and television providers who seem clueless about keeping customers and their employees happy.
The 24/7 survey identifies the year's most vilified companies after looking at customer service reviews from the American Customer Satisfaction Index, Glassdoor’s employee reviews, and 24/7's own data focusing on customer satisfaction.
Each of the companies in the report have sparked their share of complaints from customers, employees and even people don't regularly come in contact with them, noted San Francisco Gate.
1. Comcast – "The internet service provider and subscription television service industries are not known for superior customer service. In fact, the two industries have the worst average scores in the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Still, Comcast has a significantly worse customer satisfaction score than either industry average," said the survey.
2. Bank of America – "Bank of America has the worst customer satisfaction score of any bank in the ACSI. In a 24/7 Wall St.’s annual customer satisfaction poll, about 44% of those surveyed said they had a negative experience with both BofA’s banking and credit card operations, among the worst of any company surveyed. In addition to unhappy customers, the company has also has dissatisfied employees," said the survey
3. Mylan – “Several pharmaceutical companies gained national notoriety in 2016 for hiking up prices, but few received more attention than Mylan, which has come under heavy scrutiny after it raised the price of its emergency allergic reaction treatment EpiPen,” said the survey.
4. McDonald’s – "McDonald’s has the worst customer service rating of all 17 industry competitors reviewed by ACSI," said the survey.
5. Wells Fargo Bank – “Wells Fargo had perhaps the most publicized fall from grace of any company in 2016 with a scandal involving bank employees and fake credit card accounts,” the report said.
6. Facebook – The social media giant has seen its reputation decline in recent years due to “its privacy policies and the mass data collection of its users,” said the survey. Not to mention fake news.
7. Spirit Airlines – While good customer service was once a top priority for Spirit, customer surveys indicate that's not the case any more, said the report.
8. DISH Network – This TV and internet service can be found in millions of homes across the country, said the report, but nearly 47 percent of consumers aren’t happy with it.
9. Sears – Besides a ton of recent and future store closings, the retailer in recent months, has nearly the lowest customer satisfaction rating among its competitors, said the report. "In the case of Sears ... poor employee satisfaction might also be tied to dread of the company failing, as Sears has been in dire financial straits for years," said 24/7.
10. Sprint – Of all the companies reviewed, the phone service provider had the worst customer service rating, said the report.
11. Walmart – The retailer received bad customer service scores from 40 percent of the people shopping there, said the report.
12. Charter Communications (now Spectrum) – "When Time Warner Cable merged with Charter Communications earlier this year and the new public-facing operation rebranded, changing its name to Spectrum, it was likely for good reason," said 24/7. "For many Americans, each name had come to be associated with poor customer service." Charter was said to have “one of the poorest reputations for customer service of any company” in the TV industry, said the report.
