Two window washers who were stranded on scaffolding 69 floors up outside One World Trade Center on Wednesday were rescued after fire officials broke a window and pulled them inside to safety.

New York City police and fire officials came to the rescue after a 911 call came in at 12:42 p.m., The Wall Street Journal reported.

"They are in a difficult spot," a fire department spokesman told the newspaper. "They are feeling the effects of hanging in there."

The scaffolding was dangling at a 45-degree angle at about the 69th floor after a motorized cable became loose, CBS New York reported.

The 104-story building — America's tallest — opened for business last week, the station said.

The New York City Fire Department tweeted a photo of the rescue.
