A third Northeast storm churning up from the Southeast was expected to dump at least another foot of snow along some areas of New England, the National Weather Service said Monday.

Storm-weary residents trying to keep warm after widespread power outages and traveling treacherous snow-covered freeways will have to deal with yet another system coming up from the southeastern portion of the United States, the weather service said.

The disturbance crossing the Southeast on Monday will cause widespread rain from Florida to central Virginia, the weather service predicted. The storm will drop heavy snow in West Virginia and the mountains of Virginia where winter storm warnings are in effect.

CNN reported the NWS issued winter weather advisories from parts of northwestern Pennsylvania and New Jersey up through Maine from Monday evening through Tuesday night with some snow totals topping 20 inches in some areas.

The Weather Channel reported that up to 60 miles-per-hour gusts are possible from eastern Massachusetts to coastal Maine with minor coastal flooding and erosion likely. The channel warned that traveling Tuesday morning in coastal southeastern New England could be dangerous.

The National Weather Service said the New England area was predicted to receive significant snow from Connecticut to Maine. Parts of upstate New York are also likely to get heavy snow through the middle of the week, the weather service stated.

The worst of the strong winds, which characterized the last two nor'easters, are expected to remain off the coast because the storm is anticipated to track farther southeast than those disturbances, the weather service added.

It is the third major storm for Northeast this month. A strong nor'easter dropped heavy snow and rain, hurricane-force wind gusts, and significant coastal flooding along the East Coast on March 2, CNN reported.

Roughly 900,000 were left without power while six people died from falling trees caused by the storm, the network stated.

Last week, a second storm rolled into many of the same areas while residents were still recovering from the first nor'easter, per CNN. That system blanketed portions west of Interstate 95 with feet of snow in some areas, the network stated.
