4-year-old Mayor Gets Second Term Leading Tiny Town of Dorset, Minn.

Bobbie Tufts, the 4-year-old mayor of Dorset, Minn., was "re-elected" Sunday and is thrilled to hold onto his position for a second term, presiding over the 20 to 30 residents in the small town.

The Dorset community draws to fill the unpaid government position each year at its annual Taste of Dorset festival, "Good Morning America" said. Although usually town residents pay $1 to put a name into the pot, this year Tufts' popularity was widespread and the town received votes from across the nation. Clearly, those votes tilted the entries in the boy's favor.

“I became mayor again. That means I have free ice cream,” Tufts told "GMA," and he was also excited about doing lots of fishing during his next term.

Tufts became well-known after his first election/drawing to be the town’s mayor. His mother Emma Tufts said her son wanted to be mayor again and “kind of choked up a little bit” after his name was announced.

NPR reported that Emma Tufts said the mayor’s agenda for the upcoming year will be raising money for Ronald McDonald House Charities and a new welcome sign for the town.

The young mayor raised $750 from doing a walk this summer and is planning a snowshoe scavenger hunt to raise money this winter, according to The Associated Press.

At the end of the day, Tufts expressed what many politicians probably wish they could say – he was tired and done answering questions from the media.

“I want to be with the boys,” Tufts told his mother, according to the AP.
