50 Cent Death Hoax: Internet Kills Off Rapper, But He's Alive

Rapper 50 Cent was the victim of a death hoax this week, but he remains very much alive.

News of the 38-year-old's death spread across the Internet when an "R.I.P. 50 Cent" Facebook page went up Wednesday and received nearly 1 million "likes," according to MediaMass. The "about" page provided a fake account:

"At about 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday (March 19, 2014), our beloved rapper 50 Cent passed away. 50 Cent was born on July 6, 1975 in New York. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page."

Representatives for 50 Cent confirmed Thursday to MediaMass that the "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" rapper is still walking the Earth.

"He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax," 50 Cent's representatives said in a statement. "He's still alive and well. Stop believing what you see on the Internet."

In September 2012, 50 Cent was rumored to have died in a car accident.

The rapper wasn't the only celebrity killed off by a death hoax online this week: "Seinfeld" actor Wayne Newman address reports of his death via Twitter after rumors swirled that he had been killed in a car accident.
