$800,000 in dimes -- that's 8 million of them -- were strewn across the desert when a semi-trailer truck hauling the coins demolished itself in a crash on a Nevada interstate near Las Vegas.
State troopers established a crime scene so a recovery team could try collect all the dimes,
The Nevada Highway Patrol said the truck was heading south on I-15 about 50 miles from Las Vegas when it hit a guard rail in the early morning. Photos showed the truck on its side, crumpled and split open.
KSNV-TV reported the truck was hauling the money under a contract with the U.S. Treasury Department when it dumped the load and several bags split open.
The driver and a passenger were taken to a hospital. Their injuries weren't considered life-threatening.
