The aisles of a Massachusetts grocery store are haunted by a ghost wandering around the frozen peas section and startling shoppers – that’s what several customers of Wilmington's Market Basket claim.

The alleged sightings were first reported in a private Facebook group earlier this month.

"This is going to sound really, really strange but has anyone seen a ghost in the Wilmington market basket?" one person asked other users in the group, the Boston Globe reported.

The unnamed poster described an encounter with an "old Victorian era woman in her nightgown" who was haunting the grocery store "near the frozen peas."

It was not long before other shoppers were sharing their own spooky experiences.

"I’ve seen something like this but ... younger," one person wrote, according to The Globe. "[Definitely] around that era tho, the clothes and hair style."

Soon even employees had joined the conversation.

One staffer said he believed the grocery store was "definitely haunted" while another said that she had never seen a ghost before but did not "want to LOL if you're totally serious," according to the Wilmington Patch.

The rumors gained national attention and even piqued the interest of US Representative Seth Moulton’s office, Fox News noted.

“Apparently a ghost is haunting the Wilmington Market Basket,” a tweet from Moulton’s Twitter account said Sunday. "I thought I only needed to worry about witches and ghouls in #Salem!"

Market Basket has since addressed the haunting claims, stating that its stores were ghost-free.

"If there’s anything to it, she’s probably attracted to our Victorian-era prices," quipped Justine Griffin in a statement to the Globe.
