NFL star Aaron Rodgers has revealed that he is engaged days after reports emerged that he was dating "Big Little Lies" star Shailene Woodley. The Green Bay Packers quarterback shared the news during a virtual appearance of Saturday's NFL Honors broadcast, where he was named the most valuable player.
"It's an honor to win this award for the third time. 2020 was definitely a crazy year, filled with lots of change, growth, some amazing memorable moments, 180 straight days of having my nose hairs scraped, playing for very little fans," Rodgers said during his acceptance speech before dropping the bomb. "I got engaged and I played some of the best football of my career."
Rodgers went on to thank his teammates, coaching staff, and bride-to-be, whom he did not name.
"So I'd like to thank first and foremost my teammates for their support, inspiration, protection, and incredible play on the field, the coaching staff for their efforts to make this fun every single week. The energy, the positivity, and the daily presentations really kept us going," he said before extending his thanks to several personalities as well as his fiancee.
In September Rodgers spoke about his "new and increased love of life" on the "Pat McAfee Show," weeks after he split from his girlfriend of two years, former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick.
"I've made decisions and changes and habits that put me in a lot better headspace and there's just a lot of things that have come together in my life over the last few months that have really been enjoyable," he said. "That's why I'm having so much fun and it starts with love. And then surrounding yourself with people that you really enjoy."
Rodgers also previously dated actress Olivia Munn for three years until their split in 2017. Woodley was previously involved with rugby player Ben Volavola. The pair split last year after a two-year relationship.
