Australian actor Johann Ofner was shot and killed by a double-barrel shotgun on Monday during filming of a "gangland scenario" music video for the hip hop band Bliss n Esco.
Ofner, 28, was shot in a "workplace incident" about 2 p.m. local time, authorities told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. It happened at the Brooklyn Standard bar in Brisbane central business district were the video was being shot.
"During the filming of that scene, several firearms were used," Detective Inspector Tom Armitt told ABC. "As a result of the use of those firearms one of the actors has received wounds to the chest and has subsequently died from his injuries."
"At this point in time, Queensland police are conducting a criminal investigation. We do not know specifically how those injuries occurred at this point in time and that'll be (the) subject of our investigation."
Authorities were trying to determine if simulated ammunition had malfunctioned or been incorrectly used as bullets flew in the "gangland scenario" of the music video, said the Brisbane Times. A double-barreled shotgun was involved in the fatal shooting.
Up to 20 people who witnessed the incident were interviewed by police.
The band members released a statement on Facebook on Monday.
The Times said the casting call for the band's single "Friend Like You," asked for "a diverse range of people of all ages and cultural backgrounds."
Mushroom Promotions said the video production crew and its team were working with police.
According to Ofner's Facebook page, he was expected to compete in the reality show Australian Ninja Warrior on Channel Nine. The Daily Mail reported that Ofner left behind a daughter and girlfriend, Kati Garnett.
Ofner was a carpenter and also worked as a stunt double, reported the Daily Mail.
