Adam West is the voice of an animated Batman in the new feature film "Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders," that also features Burt Ward and Julie Newmar.
West, 87, rose to fame in the "Batman" television series from 1966 to 1968, reported Entertainment Weekly. Ward played West's sidekick Robin in the series while Julie Newmar portrayed Catwoman.
While Ward and Newmar return in their roles, no other casting announcements were made, reported The Guardian. Batman and Robin, according to a trailer, will be facing the familiar villain lineup of Catwoman, the Joker, Riddler, and Penguin, stated The Guardian.
West made his participation public on social media with a two-word tweet.
West has been the voice of Mayor Adam West in 102 episodes of "Family Guy" from 2000 to the present day, and is also the voice of Batman in the video game "Batman: Arkham Knight." He also voiced the character Mayor Grange in the animated television series "The Batman" from 2004-2006.
In June, West appeared in the Batmobile on CNBC's "Jay Leno's Garage."
"Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders" is being released by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and DC Entertainment on Digital HD on Oct. 11 and on Blu-Ray Nov. 1, reported Entertainment Weekly.
Nicole Puglisse of The Guardian wrote that the film "comes mere months after the release of another animated Batman film with nostalgic ties, but with much more humor. An animated version of 'Batman: The Killing Joke,' based off a 1988 graphic novel, had a limited cinema release last month to controversial reviews …"
That version featured Kevin Conroy as Batman and Mark Hamill as the Joker.
Fans on social media welcomed West back to the Batman role.
