Adea Shabani, the missing actress who vanished from her Hollywood home last month, may be the body discovered in a shallow grave in a rural Nevada wildlife area, police believe.
Police are treating the death as a homicide and believe the 25-year-old’s boyfriend, Christopher Spotz, who killed himself last week after a stand-off with police, was involved, the BBC News reported.
“Something happened, and I believe it to be somewhat untoward – that there was foul play involved,” Capt. William Hayes of the Los Angeles Police Department told a press conference.
Shabani was last seen leaving her apartment on Feb. 23 with Spotz, who was said to be engaged to another woman, CBS News reported.
After she was reported missing, police questioned Spotz, who said they were on a road trip to north California when an argument erupted, and that he let her out of the car on the side of a freeway never to see her again.
Discrepancies in Spotz’s alibi raised warning bells but he disappeared before police could track him down for further questioning.
A search was launched and when police managed to locate Spotz driving east of Los Angeles, a high-speed chase ensued, ending with Spotz fatally shooting himself in the head.
Earlier this week Nevada County Sheriff’s Office announced that they had unearthed the remains of an adult female’s body that may belong to Shabani, buried in a shallow grave in the Spenceville Wildlife Area located 430 miles from the actress’ home.
Police couldn’t positively identify the body because of the condition of the remains, Hayes said, but a post-mortem examination planned for Wednesday morning should determine if the remains are Shabani, BBC said.
