A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in Alaska Thursday morning, but no injuries or major structural damage had been reported by late afternoon.
Although the epicenter was in a rural area near Willow, the
effects of the quake were felt in Anchorage, AFP reported.

Reporter Casey Grove was in the Anchorage courthouse when the quake occurred, and she tweeted reports of what was happening. Judge William Morse was on the sixth floor of the Nesbett Courthouse, she said, where he was forced to catch his water cooler before it tipped over.
Erin Kirkland, publisher of AKontheGo, tweeted during the quake, apparently from under her desk.
Others tweeted where they were, although most continued to say that any damage was minor.
Hawaii News Now said there was no tsunami threat for Hawaii as a result of the earthquake.
Despite initial reports of no damage and no apparent injuries, the quake definitely shook up Alaskan citizens in the area.
A 5.9 magnitude earthquake recently did little damage except to one Alaskan company, Alaska Communications System Group, which had its “crucial undersea fiber-optic cable providing phone, Internet and other data services to Southeast Alaska”
severed, the Alaska Dispatch News said.
