An armed robber in Albuquerque, New Mexico, who apparently showered and shaved in front of his victim has been arrested and charged.
Former prison inmate Rudy Chavez, 43, is being held on $100,000 bond after he allegedly broke into the home of Glen Miller, 94, on Aug. 13, waking him up and
robbing Miller of his clothes, cash, television, and car, The Albuquerque Journal reports.

According to the complaint filed against Chavez, he allegedly held the victim at gunpoint throughout the course of the robbery — including showering and shaving — and dragged him through several rooms, looking for things to steal in order to keep a “watchful eye” on Miller, the Journal reported. Chavez and Miller apparently conversed, with Chavez reportedly saying he had just recently gotten out of prison and that he was unable to get a job.
At one point during the incident, Chavez allegedly grabbed Miller, giving him bruises, when the victim tried to use the phone.
According to police, Miller was able to identify Chavez when he was shown a photo of the suspect. But more importantly, police were able to lift several fingerprints from a shaver and bottle of mouthwash and other areas of the crime scene despite the robber showering.
“It certainly benefited us in this case. It gave us an enhanced opportunity to identify him and subsequently arrest him,” Lt. Paul Szych of the Albuquerque Police Department told the Journal. “That was a key component to the case.”
Three days after the robbery, police arrested Chavez on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery, larceny, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle in connection with the robbery. He also had two outstanding felony warrants and is suspected to be involved in a shooting that occurred the same day Miller was robbed.
