Abducted, severely beaten, robbed, and left for dead on train tracks in Michigan, rocker Alex Band says what happened to him over the weekend was not a hoax to drum up publicity for the reunion of his band The Calling.
"This just happened to me. I didn't kidnap myself, or beat the crap out of myself. So the whole hoax thing is honestly kind of
disgusting to even think about, or hear," Band, 32, told CNN.
It happened early Sunday morning after Band performed at a music festival in Lapeer, Mich. He claims he was walking down a street around 3 a.m. when suddenly a van drove up next to him.

"I was pulled by my shirt back and two guys grabbed each of my arms and pulled me into the van," Band told "Good Morning America." "They clubbed my face with a police baton."
Band said he was beaten so violently that he suffered a fractured spine, lacerations on his chin that required 15 stitches, and three broken teeth.
"At this point, I was crying, I'll admit it, I was scared, and I was pleading for my life, but then it occurred to me. I was like, 'You know, I just found like a couple of weeks ago that I'm going to be a dad,'" Band told CNN. "[One of the guys] said 'It's your lucky day' and he kicked me out of the car onto the train tracks."
The singer's bandmates noticed at that point that he was missing and began to search for him. They discovered him on the tracks and took him to McLaren Lapeer Regional hospital, according to Band's publicist.

The attack came just a few days after the announcement that the pop-rock group The Calling, best known for their 2001 hit single "Wherever You Will Go," was reuniting after an eight-year hiatus, leading some to speculate that the abduction was a PR stunt.
But Band refutes all the rumors.
"I am grateful to be alive and I know that I am destined for bringing my music back to my fans," he told CNN.
