Alex Rodriguez Plea Deal in Drug Scandal Reportedly Reached

Alex Rodriguez's plea deal regarding his performance-enhancing drug scandal will at best consist of a 150 game suspension according to sources, the New York Daily News reports.

Coming out of a 20-day rehab assignment for hip surgery that ends July 22, Rodriguez and his attorneys recently became aware of the extent of Major League Baseball's case against the professional athlete.

Following a four-and-a-half hour meeting with MLB officials on Friday, a noticeably shaken Rodriguez discussed the investigation further with MLB Players Association reps, a source told the Daily News.

Rodriguez subsequently failed to report to the Yankee's complex in Tampa Bay, Fla., missing Friday night's game for the Tampa Yankees, a minor league team for the franchise.

He was later reportedly chastised for missing the game by the Yankees, which issued him a notification Saturday telling him that he is obligated to inform them in advance of any future absence, a source told the Daily News.

Regarding the possible plea deal, an A-Rod spokesman told the Daily News over the weekend that "nobody from Alex’s team has made any such comments, and as we have said before, we are respecting the process and following the procedures as outlined in the joint agreement."

Rodriguez, among other professional baseball players, is accused of having for years used performance-enhancing drugs which he acquired from a Miami anti-aging clinic run by self-described biochemist Anthony Bosch.

The MLB is believed to have extensive evidence in their case against Rodriguez, courtesy of information provided by Bosch, who is cooperating with the league in exchange for being dropped from the league's lawsuit against the players, the Daily News reported.
Bosch is believed to have proof of his dealings with Rodriguez, which he reportedly presented to MLB officials.

"I can see a scenario where if they’ve got multiple offenses (against A-Rod) that rather than going for his career with an arbitrator, baseball might settle on something like 150 games," one of the sources told the Daily News.

A suspension of 150 games would like be a career ender for Rodriguez, who is turning 38 in a couple of weeks, which one of the Daily News sources said is the league's objective in a plea deal.

"The bottom line is (MLB) wants these guys out of the game. In (A-Rod’s) case, 150 games would sufficiently accomplish that," the source said.

The Yankees third basement, who is considered by many to be one of the top players of all time having been youngest player ever to hit 500 home runs among other accomplishments, has a net worth of approximately $300 million and earns $33 million per year according to CelebrityNetWorth.com.
