Alex Trebek has had brain surgery for blood clots after a fall three months ago, producers of "Jeopardy!" said Thursday.
Trebek, 77, who has hosted "Jeopardy!" for 33 years, said in a video that he would resume taping the game show "very, very soon" and called the brain surgery "a slight medical problem," NBC News reported.
The game show host said in the video he was diagnosed with a condition called subdural hematoma and had to surgery to remove the clots.
The show's producer, Sony Pictures Entertainment, said in a statement that Trebek was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on Dec. 15 and underwent surgery the following day.
"He is expected to make a full and complete recovery," the Sony statement said, per NBC News. "Alex spent Christmas at home with his family, and he will return to the Jeopardy! studio for taping in mid-January."
Producers told Variety that because "Jeopardy!" has a long lead time in taping, the only change to the show's on-air schedule would be shifting its College Championship episodes from March to April.
"Jeopardy," which has the unique format where contestants delivering answers in the form of a question, has become an evening-TV mainstay in tandem with "Wheel of Fortune," in syndication, noted Variety.
Many fans went to social media to wish Trebek well.
