Ten months have passed since "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek announced his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnoses to the world and it has started to wear him down as he undergoes another round of chemotherapy.
The 79-year-old admitted to experiencing challenging times during his treatment.
"Some days are better than others," he said Wednesday during the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena, California, according to Fox News.
"My resistance is lower than most, of course, because of the [chemotherapy] treatments," the long-time host continued. "I have a cold that seems to be going around, but this is the second time I've had one in the past month and a half. They've gotten me off one of my chemo drugs, which were killing me."
Trebek has noticed changes in his body since starting treatment. His skin has darkened and his "memory isn't as good as it used to be." The effects also have started spilling over into his professional career, with Trebek feeling a "little slower at the ad-libbed portions" while filming "Jeopardy!"
The illness has many people wondering when he will retire and Trebek himself said last week that he had mentally been planning how his exit would unfold, but for now he has no intention of going anywhere.
His wife insists there has been no change in his hosting abilities and Trebek said his skills "haven't diminished too much," which is why he will continue to work on the show he has hosted for 36 years.
"When you’ve been hosting, there are some of you who have been doing your jobs for many years," he said. "Some of you two or three decades. When you’ve been in the same job for that long period of time, it moves you to think at some point about retiring. Thinking about retiring and retiring are two different things."
