Amanda Bynes, the troubled former child star who cleaned up after spending months in a rehab facility last year, was arrested in California early Sunday on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
Bynes, the 28-year-old best known for her work on Nickelodeon, was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol around 4:10 a.m. after reportedly stopping her vehicle at the Van Nuys Boulevard
intersection, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Officer Leland Tang told the Times that Bynes' blood was drawn to test for drugs and alcohol but the results are not yet known. The actress was released shortly after noon on Sunday.
"Our law enforcement sources say she was on a stimulant, but we're told she has also developed a
serious weed problem again," TMZ reported, noting that her bail was set at $15,000. "Amanda has had trouble with mental problems for years now. Her parents had a conservatorship which ended earlier this month and as one source says, 'Things started going haywire.'"
The arrest could trigger additional legal problems for Bynes since she was already on probation for driving with a suspended license in California, the Times noted. She first got in trouble in April 2012 when she crashed her car into a police cruiser in Los Angeles.
Bynes' downward spiral came to a head last summer when she was placed on a 5150 hold after setting a small fire in the driveway of a Los Angeles-area home. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and later moved to a fancy Malibu rehab center. The actress was released last December and had reportedly gotten on the right track, staying at her parents' California home, attending outpatient treatment, and taking classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
