Amanda Bynes, the troubled former child star who cleaned up after spending months in a rehab facility last year, will remain hospitalized for two weeks after a judge extended a 72-hour psychiatric hold on Monday.
The 28-year-old Nickelodeon star was placed on an involuntary 5150 hold — meant for people with mental illnesses who pose a danger to themselves or others — on
Friday after flying to Los Angeles, ABC News reported.
Sam Lutfi, the man involved with Britney Spears when the pop star suffered a breakdown in 2008, reportedly conspired with Bynes' parents to get her to travel from New York, telling her she was going to meet with a lawyer to file a lawsuit against
Lynn and Rick Bynes, according to TMZ.
When Bynes arrived at the so-called meeting, she was put under the 5150 hold and taken to a Pasadena facility.
"My clients are very concerned about their daughter," Tamar Arminak, a lawyer for Bynes' family, told ABC News in a statement. "Despite what is being reported, they are doing everything they can to help Amanda."
Red flags were raised last week when the actress took to Twitter to accuse her father of sexual abuse. She later retracted the tweets, claiming the "microchip" in her head made her do it.
Bynes' downward spiral came to a head last summer when she was first placed on a 5150 hold after setting a small fire in the driveway of a Los Angeles-area home. She was diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and later moved to a fancy Malibu rehab center. The actress was released last December and had reportedly gotten on the right track, staying at her parents' California home, attending outpatient treatment, and taking classes at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
But her recovery hit a few roadblocks recently. She was arrested in California for a DUI in late September and reportedly got kicked out of FIDM, TMZ noted.
The current two-week hold can be extended if a judge deems it necessary, ABC News reported.
