Amber Heard has accused former husband Johnny Depp of threatening to kill her "many times" during the course of their tumultuous relationship.
The model-actress dropped the bomb on Monday when she entered the witness box at the High Court in London to give evidence during Depp’s libel case against a British tabloid that accused him of assaulting her during their tempestuous relationship.
It’s one of the nastiest court fights featuring a Hollywood couple ever.
In written testimony, Heard said she often feared for her life and claimed Depp subjected her to "punching, slapping, kicking, head-butting and choking" on numerous occasions during their relationship, according to the Associated Press.
She recalled incidents that were"so severe" that she often thought Depp was going to kill her, either intentionally or unintentionally "by losing control and going too far.”
Depp has denied ever striking Heard.
Heard said that Depp "explicitly threatened to kill me many times, especially later in our relationship" adding that he blamed his actions on "a self-created third party" that he referred to as "the monster.'" She also revealed an argument in a hotel room in Tokyo "that resulted in Johnny kneeling on my back and hitting me on the back of the head."
Depp was in court on Monday for a hearing against U.K. tabloid The Sun's editor Dan Wootton and the publication's parent company, News Group Newspapers, which he is suing for a 2018 article alleging he was abusive toward Heard.
Depp and Heard met on the set of the 2011 comedy "The Rum Diary" and married in Los Angeles in February 2015. Heard filed for divorce the following year, and the divorce was finalized in 2017. Now they bitterly accuse one another of abuse, with radically differing accounts their tempestuous marriage emerging in court.
