Angelina Jolie has revealed that she will undergo another preventative surgery to stave off cancer.
"There’s still another surgery to have, which I haven’t yet. I’ll, you know, I’ll get advice from all these wonderful people who I’ve been talking to, to get through that next stage," the actress said this week i
n an interview with Entertainment Weekly for her "Maleficent" cover story.
Jolie is most likely alluding to her genetic risk for ovarian cancer, which is what took the life of her mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand, at age 56.

Last May, Jolie underwent a double mastectomy after she had genetic testing and learned that she carries the BRCA1 gene, placing her at 87 percent risk for breast cancer.
In a May 14 article penned by Jolie in The New York Times, the actress wrote that once she realized she had the "'faulty' gene . . . I knew this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much as I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy."
Speaking about her choice and how she's feeling now, she said, "I’m great! I’m very happy I made the decision. I was very fortunate to have great doctors and very, very fortunate to have a good recovery and have a project like 'Unbroken' [the World War II survival story she is directing] to have something to be really focused on, to be getting healthy for, and to be able to just get right back to work."
The Angelina Jolie effect has led numerous women to seek genetic testing to determine whether or not they are predisposed to getting cancer. However, the testing may not be in everyone's best interest.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) warned against unnecessary BRCA testing, which it said
could potentially harm rather than help the patient, ABC News reported.
