Ann Coulter is being accused of calling soccer un-American after comments in which she suggested the game's increasing popularity is caused by foreigners moving to America.
Coulter's diatribe came out as much of the nation prepared to watch the USA-Germany match Thursday that would determine if the USA went on to the Round of 16.

“If more ‘Americans’ are watching soccer today, it's only because of the demographic switch effected by Teddy Kennedy's 1965 immigration law,”
she wrote. “I promise you: No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer.”
Coulter also said soccer isn't really a sport because "the prospect of either personal humiliation or major injury is required to count as a sport."
Among her other insights into the game are the lack of individual achievement; "liberal moms like soccer because it's a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys"; and the fact that soccer players can’t use their hands while opposable thumbs are what set humans apart from other beasts.
While Coulter doesn't appear to be a big fan of soccer, her comments only seemed to fuel fandom among Americans commenting online.
The U.S. team lost 1-0 to Germany Thursday but still advances to the Round of 16 because Ghana lost to Portugal.
