Oscar-winner Anna Paquin will not be appearing in "X-Men: Days of Future Past," since her scene with Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart was cut from the movie.

Paquin, who played the character Rogue in previous "X-Men" movies, reprised the role for the newest mutant movie.

"X-Men" director Bryan Singer told Entertainment Weekly that a rescue sequence with McKellen's Magneto, Stewart's Professor X, Shawn Ashmore's Iceman and Paquin's Rogue had been cut from the final film.

"Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous," Singer said. "It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go.

"Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she's in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won't appear in it," Singer continued.

Singer said he is still editing the movie but has already told Paquin she was cut.

"She completely understood," Singer told Entertainment Weekly. "It's very disappointing, but she’s very professional and she knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve."

Paquin appeared as Rogue in "X-Men" in 2000, "X2" in 2003 and "X-Men: Last Stand" in 2006. She won an Oscar in 1994 for best supporting actress in the movie "The Piano." She is best known for her role as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series "True Blood."

Paquin won a Golden Globe for best actress in a television drama for her role in "True Blood" in 2009.

"Days of Future Past" still has plenty of star power, with McKellen and Stewart joined by Oscar winners Halle Berry and Jennifer Lawrence, along with Hugh Jackman, Ellen Page and "Game of Thrones'" Peter Dinkage.
