Singer Annie Lennox's daughter, Tali Fruchtmann, survived a kayaking accident on the Hudson River Saturday morning but her 32-year-old boyfriend remained missing near the Staatsburgh State Historic Site.
The Dutchess County Sheriff's Office told the
Poughkeepsie Journal that Fruchtmann, 22, and Ian Jones, both from New York City, had been kayaking on the Hudson in the Staatsburgh area early Saturday when it appeared that their tandem kayak capsized.
Officials told the
New York Daily News that Fruchtmann and Jones weren't wearing life preservers when the accident happened.
Officials began searching for Jones about 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning but river conditions slowed efforts, according to the Journal. Search crews returned to the river on Sunday to continue looking for Jones.
Fruchtmann was picked up by a passing vessel uninjured.
"We believe that alcohol may have played a role," said Capt. John Watterson of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office told the Journal that Jones was wearing jeans and a denim shirt at the time he disappeared. Officials said he is 6-foot-3 tall with a slim build and dark hair.
The New York Post said Fruchtmann and Jones had dated for several years and lived in New York City. Fruchtmann, who also goes by Tali Lennox, is one of the Grammy Award-winning singer's two daughters she had with ex-husband Uri Fruchtmann,
according to Us Weekly.
Fruchtmann, described by the
Daily Mail as a model-turned-artist, had received positive reviews for her solo art show in New York City this past March. Ian Jones is a New York-based photographer.
