Anonymous, the shadowy computer hacker group, has declared war on Donald Trump.
"We need you to shut down his websites, research, and expose what he doesn’t want the public to know," says a man wearing the group's trademark Guy Fawkes mask in a YouTube video released earlier this month. "We need you to dismantle his campaign and sabotage his brand."
The group has asked its network of volunteer hackers to target Trump on April 1, and pointed to TrumpChicago.com, a website for a Trump-branded hotel, as just one potential target.
In an op-ed penned for Business Insider, cybersecurity expert
John McAfee pointed out that a contributor to the Anonymous headquarters website said that the most elite hackers are being called upon to target Trump.
"Usually when an attack occurs people do not go out and announce the exact date and time to the public weeks in advance," wrote a user named Righteous.
"Make no mistake Donald Trump will be aware of this event now and you can bet the NSA and the Secret Service will be particularly interested in monitoring all the Internet activity on these sites April 1st."
The user then warned amateur hackers that they could be caught during the operation.
"Understand, the group of Anonymous who took out Turkey are the elite of the elite hackers. If you do not know what you are doing, do not know how to hide your IP or cover your tracks and you participate in this attack you will be caught."
Along with the call to arms, Anonymous released what they said was Trump's Social Security number, date of birth, and private phone number, as well as other personal data for Trump's agent and legal representatives.
The declaration of war against Trump comes on the heels of a December call to arms, when the group appeared to take down the website of Trump Tower in New York City,
CNET.com reported.
