Marvel Studios gave fans a first look at "Ant-Man and the Wasp" on Tuesday by releasing the first trailer for the July 6 release, one day after its grand "Black Panther" premiere.
The movie will be the first from Marvel Studios with a female superhero as a title character and will showcase a budding superhero partnership between Ant-Man Scott Lang and the Wasp Hope Van Dyne, played by Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly, respectively.
The "Ant-Man" sequel builds on its predecessor's heist movie stylings and turns the superheroes and Van Dyne’s father, Hank Pym, played by Michael Douglas and the brains of the operation, into fugitives.
Besides shrinking and enlarging themselves and various objects and animals to make their escape, the heroes will reportedly travel into the subatomic "quantum realm" to recover Van Dyne’s mother and Pym’s wife Janet, who vanished there decades earlier during a secret mission with Pym.
While Michelle Pfeiffer, who was cast for the part of Janet Van Dyne, did not make an appearance in the trailer, a new masked and mysterious character did.
Another newcomer to the cast is Laurence Fishburne, who plays Dr. Bill Foster, also known as the hero Goliath in Marvel Comics.
Michael Pena reprises his role of Luis, Lang's long-winded comedic foil and partner in crime.
There was plenty of Twitter reaction to the trailer, even though two other hotly anticipated Marvel movies — “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War” — open first.
