Apple iPhone 6 Delayed to 2015? Phablet Battery Size Troubles Reported

By    |   Wednesday, 23 April 2014 06:14 PM EDT

The debut of a larger Apple iPhone 6 could be delayed to 2015 amid the supplier’s reported difficulties in producing a battery to fit the newest device.

Apple is rumored to be producing a 4.7-inch display, along the same line as the iPhone 5s, and another 5.5-inch iPhone that's more phablet than phone. It's the latter that seems to be experiencing problems.

According to G for Games, producing a battery thin enough to meet Apple's standards could delay the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, nicknamed iPhone Air.

The larger phone is designed with a sleek body and would require a battery of 2 mm thickness or less, G for Games said, significantly smaller than standard batteries measuring 2.8 mm or to 2.9 mm thickness.

The smaller 4.7-inch iPhone may still arrive in September, though a February report suggested that the phone could arrive in stores in July, rather than the fall.

While specifics of the next iPhone are merely speculation, Apple is expected to create a phone to meet the growing demand for larger-screen phones to compete with models from Samsung and HTC, which typically have 5-inch displays.
