What's the price of Apple's new iPhone 8? Sources close to Apple are saying the 10th anniversary iPhone being introduced next month will cost at least $999 for the base model, a more than $200 increase over the current iPhone 7 Plus price tag.
The New York Times reported anonymous sources said the iPhone 8 will offer significant upgrades and will start at $999. A 7S and 7S Plus version of the phone also will be released in the near future with less significant upgrades over those current versions.
Upgrades to the iPhone 8 include a larger screen size, achieved by reducing the bezel, facial recognition, and wireless charging capabilities, the Times reported. The Verge added that it would have a higher resolution, OLED display, and might not have a home button. Other details are in dispute, like whether there would be a fingerprint scanner and where it would be located.
Rumors continue to swirl about the 10th anniversary version of the phone, with some such as BGR suggesting the price could go even higher than $999 and noting that Samsung’s Note 8, released Thursday, will cost up to $960 depending on the carrier.
Availability for the new phones may also be limited at first due to some reported supply chain problems.
Some on Twitter found the price for Apple's new phone too much to handle, while others said they would find a way to fork over the cash no matter what it took.
