Apple has reportedly scheduled a product launch event for Sept. 12, fueling speculation about the release date of new iPhone and other products customers have been waiting for.
Sources told The Wall Street Journal the launch event has been scheduled, although Apple had not yet confirmed the event on Monday.
Three new iPhones are expected to be unveiled at the event, including a new iPhone 8 to mark the 10th anniversary of the iconic smartphone and updates to the iPhone 7 versions of the device.
The new iPhone 8 is rumored to have a larger screen with reduced bezel size, OLED display with brighter colors, and facial recognition, with no physical home button and a possible rear fingerprint scanner, CNBC reported. Experts have speculated the premium version of the new iPhone may cost more than $1,000.
Apple typically begins selling its new iPhones about a week to 10 days after the launch. According to earlier reports, manufacturing delays and production glitches could delay the iPhone 8, so it remains to be seen whether the normal timeline will be followed.
Previous launch events have been held at San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, but sources told the WSJ this launch may be held at the Steve Jobs Theater on its new campus if construction can be finished in time.
The launch event, if confirmed, will take place about a week after Samsung begins selling its Galaxy Note 8, which has features such as one of the largest smartphone screens and a dual-lens camera similar to iPhone 7’s, the WSJ reported.
Other products will also be unveiled at the launch, including a new Apple Watch and 4K Apple TV.
