During a visit to an Apple store by Sean Spicer on Saturday, the White House press secretary was confronted by an angry fellow customer whose video of the encounter has gone viral.
Shree Chauhan approached Spicer at the Washington, D.C., store and started asking him pointed questions about his job within the Trump administration and about President Donald Trump. "You know you work for a fascist, right? Chauhan said loudly in the video posted to Twitter. "How do you feel about that? How do you feel about destroying our country?"
Chauhan also asked whether Spicer was involved in "the Russia stuff." Spicer smiled throughout the encounter, answering her by saying that America is "a great country," and then saying "such a great country that allows you to be here," according to Fox News.
Chauhan said in the Medium blog post that she "realized what an enormous opportunity it was to get answers without the protections normally given to Mr. Spicer."
Chauhan, who The Washington Post identified as being of Indian heritage, said that she felt that his answer to her was "racism" and that it was an "implied threat" against her citizenship.
"I was not polite," Chauhan admitted in describing her questions.
The Washington Post also characterized her questions as "far from polite," given that the custom in Washington, D.C. is to give public figures their space, something she says she has done previously for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Sen. Chuck Grassley.
"However, given what Mr. Spicer and his boss are doing to this country, I do not believe they are entitled to these norms and customs," she said in the blog.
Twitter had some strong words for Chauhan about her treatment of Spicer.
Others supported her.
