Apple stores are about to get a revamp.
Jonathan Ive, senior vice president of design at Apple, told The New Yorker that he is working on a redesign with Angela Ahrendts, senior vice president of retail.
Ive told the magazine that he overheard someone say, “I’m not going to buy a watch if I can’t stand on carpet.”
The timing and scope of the redesign haven’t been announced.
Ahrendts was hired in 2013 to focus on customer experience. She previously was CEO of Burberry.
The coming store revamp is said to accommodate the Apple Watch, which will include
custom-designed safes for the 18K gold watches, Business Insider reported.
Ive’s work has included the finish of the iMac, MacBook, iPod, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.
Apple Insider reported earlier this month that changes to Apple’s retail stores are expected before the launch of the Apple Watch and could include new seating areas.
Ive also is drawing attention this week for making a design suggestion regarding the lightsaber to “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J. J. Abrams.
“I thought it would be interesting if it were less precise, and just a little bit more spitty,” Ive said, according to The New Yorker, adding that the weapon could be “more analog and more primitive, and I think, in that way, somehow more ominous.”
