Apple is set to unveil a wearable device on September 9 alongside two new iPhones, and many tech insiders are nearly certain it's a smartwatch.
The Wall Street Journal reported via Re/code that the new wearable device will make use of Apple's HealthKit platform as well as its HomeKit platform.
Regarding the new iPhones, it has long been rumored that the company will introduce two models: one with at 4.7-inch screen and one with a 5.5-inch screen — both of which are larger than the 4-inch screens of the iPhone 5, 5S, and 5C.

Many analysts expect the debut to come at least a few months ahead of the holidays, giving consumers time to budget for the new devices and plan for gifts.
Since the passing of Apple's founder and CEO, Steve Jobs, new CEO Tim Cook has been scrutinized by tech experts and financial analysts who say Apple needs a new hit device.
Apple's stock has surged each time it's broken into new product categories with devices like the iPod and iPhone, but the last time the company did so was in 2010, with the introduction of the iPad. On recent conference calls with investors, Cook has promised that a new category device is on the way, and many suspect it will be a smartwatch.
The watch is likely to capitalize on HealthKit, which will be launched on Apple devices along with its new mobile operating system, iOS 8,
TechCrunch reported.
The platform makes it easier for software developers to create health and fitness apps for Apple's devices. If the iWatch (or whatever it's going to be called, possibly iTime) is equipped with biometric sensors for measuring things like blood pressure, heart rate, steps, and hydration, HealthKit is likely to harness them.
Similarly, HomeKit will also be introduced with iOS 8, and is expected to help manage in-home smart devices, such as smart thermostats like Nest, smart refrigerators, smart smoke detectors, and so on.
Many artists and designers have dreamed up their own ideas about what Apple's smartwatch might look like, in many cases taking into account battery bulk, flexible glass technology, etc. The mockups almost always generate buzz on social media sites like Twitter, and a few are gathered below.
