ARod, aka ex-Yankee Alex Rodriguez, has done a good job rebranding himself from controversial sports star to more than just a successful TV broadcaster. He's a franchise-in-waiting.
In a special featured in The Hollywood Reporter, Rodriguez spoke about his transformation from outcast athlete to stylish sports announcer and boyfriend to Jennifer Lopez.
"It starts with being accountable,” he said. “When people can see that you're genuine, that's when they pay attention. You have to own your s**t.”
The former major leaguer’s sports career was plagued with controversies, including doping and suspensions. The public criticized his antics.
The image he presents to the public nowadays is very different.
GQ magazine said Rodriquez was “one of 2017’s great makeover stories,” noting how the 42-year-old has developed his sense of style since dating Lopez in March.
In 2015, Rodriquez launched a new career in TV when Fox Sports hired him for postseason studio coverage and ultimately became a break out star, Sporting News said.
Since then Rodriquez has been winning public approval and has been hailed as a successful businessman.
He expanded his career to include a deal with ABC News in which he will debut as a news reporter.
Rodriquez has now signed a multiyear deal with Fox to appear as a full-time analyst and he will make an appearance on the upcoming season of “Shark Tank” as a ‘guest shark.’
Rodriquez told THR that when he came back from a suspension in 2015 he wanted to make a new impression.
"When I came back [after the suspension], I wanted to be a different person,” he said. "It's night and day how content and happy and proud I am.”
