Ashley Judd Pressing Charges Against Harassing Internet Trolls

By    |   Tuesday, 17 March 2015 07:01 PM EDT

Actress Ashley Judd has had enough of Internet trolls, and she is pressing charges against people who direct harassment and threats at her on social media.

The recent harassment has sparked from Judd’s support of her alma mater, the University of Kentucky, during March Madness. She tweeted about the issued on Sunday.

"The amount of gender violence that I experienced is absolutely extraordinary," Judd told "Today." "A significant part of my day today will be spent filing police reports at home about gender violence that's directed at me on social media."

The slew of hateful comments followed a tweet in which the “Divergent” star said she thought Arkansas was “playing dirty” during Sunday’s game at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.

On Tuesday, the 46-year-old actress responded on Twitter to criticism about her plans to take legal action.

She first told MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts of her plans to press charges.

"The way things happen on social media is so abusive. Everyone needs to take personal responsibility for what they write and not allow this misinterpretation and shaming culture on social media to persist. And by the way, I’m pressing charges," she said.

Public figures including Zelda Williams and Iggy Azalea have left Twitter because of harassment, and recently baseball great Curt Schilling tracked down two men who were harassing his daughter on Twitter and wrote about the incident in a blog post.

Twitter users shared mixed reactions to Judd's plans.
