It was James Bond's new ride, an Aston Martin DB10, that outshined the news Thursday that the next film has a name — "Spectre" — and will star Christoph Waltz.
“Spectre” refers to the terrorist organization that Ernst Blofeld led in early movies, and the name was announced Thursday by director Sam Mendes.
Along with a title, the movie has confirmed cast members Waltz, Andrew Scott, and two new “Bond girls,” Lea Seydoux and Monica Bellucci. Daniel Craig will continue in the role of Bond for his fourth movie.
While it’s exciting to have a name for the movie and to identify new cast members, the unveiling of the “awesome” car Bond will drive in the upcoming movie was (maybe) the most important announcement made.
“But who cares about the cast when there’s a sweet new Aston Martin coming, too?”
Time writer Alex Fitzpatrick said. “Meet the next Bond car: An Aston Martin DB10. Us peons who lack a license to kill won’t actually be able to buy one — Aston built the DB10 specifically for 'Spectre,' and it’s only building 10 of them, according to Jalopnik. (It’s also a safe bet at least one will get wrecked in the name of a great car chase.)”
Fitzpatrick said the car is a “perfect throwback to what’s unquestionably the franchise’s most iconic vehicle: The Aston Martin DB5, which was Bond’s ride in 'Goldfinger' and a handful of other movies, including a self-referential cameo in 2012’s 'Skyfall.'"
Online communities lit up over the Bond announcements.
