An Atlanta pit bull attack killed one child and injured another as they were walking to a bus stop in Atlanta on Tuesday, and the owner of the two dogs has been arrested.

Owner Cameron Tucker was charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of reckless conduct, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Logan Braatz, 6, and Syrai Sanders, 5, were walking to their bus stop with other children at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday when the two dogs attacked them, the newspaper reported. They were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, and Logan was later taken to the trauma unit at Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died. Syari is in stable condition.

The dogs had other children cornered until neighbor Shamonte Clayton heard them screaming and chased the dogs off with a gun, the AJC reported. Fulton County Animal Control took one of the dogs into custody, but an officer shot and killed the other dog.

“Our officers couldn’t get control of it in a manner that he felt safe,” Atlanta police sergeant Warren Pickard said. “So our policies and procedures allow us to act in that capacity,” the AJC reported.

Logan’s uncle Andy Brasly said, “He meant and still means the world to every single person he’s ever touched in his life, because all he ever wanted was to make a friend,” the AJC reported.

A crisis team went to Stanton Elementary School where the children attended to provide grief counseling to students and staff, according to The Associated Press.
