Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, a high school senior from New York, has completed an Ivy League sweep, gaining acceptance to all eight prestigious colleges.
Now comes the hard part, as the Elmont Memorial High School valedictorian will have until May 1 to make her mind between Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and the University of Pennsylvania,
according to a statement from the Sewanhaka Central High School District, on Long Island, New York.
Or she could skip the Ivy Leagues altogether and attend Johns Hopkins University or Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she was also accepted, according to the school district.
"I am humbled by all of the college acceptance letters that I recently received," Uwamanzu-Nna said in the statement. "I am reminded that I have a responsibility to be a role model for others and use my experiences to encourage and inspire others, especially young women."
Uwamanzu-Nna, the daughter of Nigerian immigrants, compiled a 101.64 weighted grade point average and was accepted to all 12 colleges she
applied to, according to the New York Daily News. The 17-year-old said that she plans to pursue a career in science, possibly combining interests such as biochemistry and environmental studies.
"My parents have always taught me the value of hard work, and I am very thankful for that," she said. "My teachers at Elmont Memorial have also played a major role in my development. Elmont Memorial is a very special place, where teachers start their days at 7 a.m. and leave very late in the evening."
"My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teachers. I am elated, but most importantly, I am thankful," she continued.
This is the second consecutive year in which an Elmont senior won acceptance into all eight Ivy League schools. Elmont grad Harold Ekeh selected Yale last year, according to the Daily News.
Since Ivy League universities operate independently on their admissions, it's difficult to know how many students get accepted into all of the colleges at the same time each year.
